Itinerary – 4 Days Tour Tangier to Marrakech
Day 1: Tangier → Chefchaouen → Fes [309 km; ~5 h]
Your guide will greet you at your hotel in Tangier, and you will depart from this storied gateway to North Africa.
You will pause at the 17th-century Kasbah Museum, which overlooks the Strait of Gibraltar. After crossing into the Rif Mountains, you arrive in Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl,” where indigo-colored alleys and flower-lined facades enchant you at every turn.
A stroll to Plaza Uta el-Hammam reveals artisans selling woven wool and spices beneath the octagonal minaret of the Grand Mosque.
After having lunch at a rooftop café, you walk to the Ras el-Ma spring, where mountain streams flow into terraced pools surrounded by fig and olive trees.
In the mid-afternoon, the road winds east toward Fes, the “Mecca of the West.” At sunset, you arrive at your riad in the UNESCO-listed Fes el-Bali. The air is perfumed with the rich dyes of the tanneries, and the labyrinthine souks await your discovery.
Day 2: Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Merzouga Desert [467 km; ~7 h]
Awaken to the call to prayer echoing through the medina of Fes, then set off over the Middle Atlas Mountains. In Ifrane—”Morocco’s Little Switzerland”—admire chalet-style villas and snow-dusted parks at an elevation of 1,665 meters.
A short drive will bring you to the cedar forest of Azrou, where Barbary macaques frolic among towering cedars and scrub oaks.
As you descend through Midelt’s apple orchards, pause for a riverside lunch before crossing the date-palm corridor of the Ziz Valley.
In the afternoon, you tour fossil workshops in Erfoud, where 400-million-year-old relics are shaped into artisan carvings. By late afternoon, the vast Erg Chebbi dunes come into view.
You mount camels for a sunset trek into the Sahara. At your desert camp, a Berber feast and drum circle welcome your first night under the dunes as the light fades.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert → Todra Gorge → Dadès Valley [255 km; ~4 h]
Rise before dawn to watch the sunlight sculpt the rippling ridges of Erg Chebbi in rose and amber hues. After enjoying a hearty breakfast of flatbread and mint tea, depart southward and pause at Rissani’s bustling market—the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty—where spice stalls are overflowing with dates and saffron.
The road climbs into the High Atlas Mountains and drops into the narrow canyon floor of the Todra Gorge. A 30-minute guided walk beneath the sheer, up-to-400-meter-high limestone walls immerses you in a geologist’s dream.
After lunch, you follow the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” where each bend reveals mud-brick fortresses perched on red cliffs. By late afternoon, you will arrive in the Dadès Valley and check into a riad perched on the edge of a cliff. Its terraces will frame the valley’s Monkey Fingers formations.
Day 4: Dadès Valley → Aït Ben Haddou → Marrakech [325 km; ~5 h]
After enjoying breakfast with a view of Dadès’s sculpted gorges, explore the hidden kasbahs dotting the palm-fringed oasis. Then, head west to Ouarzazate’s Taourirt Kasbah, which offers a glimpse of film-set glamour.
Next, the road ascends to the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, where panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains stretch to snow-capped summits. As you descend into the Ounila Valley, the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou emerges, with its ochre towers and narrow streets immortalized in Hollywood epics.
After wandering through its fortified lanes and crumbling granaries, continue over winding Atlas hairpin turns toward Marrakech. As dusk falls, you catch a glimpse of the ochre city walls and the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque rising above Jemaa el-Fnaa, bringing your epic four-day journey to a close.
