Itinerary – 4 Days tour from Fes to Merzouga
Day 1: Fes → Azrou → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Merzouga
You depart Fes at 08:00 AM, climbing into the Middle Atlas with a first pause in Ifrane—“Little Switzerland” of Morocco—for crisp mountain air and alpine-style villas.
Next, the cedar forest of Azrou beckons, where Barbary macaques play among ancient trunks. Crossing Midelt’s highland orchards, you enter the Ziz Valley—an endless corridor of date palms lining deep canyon floors.
By late afternoon, the sands of Erg Chebbi rise on the horizon; in Merzouga village, you pause for mint tea before mounting camels for a 1–2 hour trek to your desert camp at sunset, as gold and crimson hues melt together.
Day 2: Merzouga Sunrise → Gnawa Music → 4×4 Dune Excursion
Rise before dawn to watch the sun paint the dune crests in pinks and oranges, then return to camp for a hearty Berber breakfast.
Mid-morning, you visit Khamlia—the Gnawa village just south of Merzouga—where Sub-Saharan descendants preserve soul-stirring rhythms and spiritual chants passed down for centuries.
In the afternoon, a guided 4×4 dune safari takes you to remote sand seas and seasonal desert lakes; along the way you may try sandboarding or simply marvel at the silent vastness. Dinner and a second night in camp follow, with casual drumming around the fire (weather permitting).
Day 3: Merzouga → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley
After breakfast and the option to ride your camel back to Merzouga village, the road winds west into Todra Gorge.
Here you stretch your legs on a 30-minute walk beneath sheer 300 m limestone walls. Continuing through Tinghir’s palm-fringed oases, you follow the famed “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” where red-cliff fortresses line the valley.
By late afternoon you arrive in the Dades Valley, settling into a cliff-side riad with terraces overlooking the dramatic landscape.
Day 4: Dades Valley → Ouarzazate → Aït Ben Haddou → Fes
This morning, you explore Dades’s maze of mudbrick kasbahs en route to Ouarzazate for a brief stop at Taourirt Kasbah.
Next, the UNESCO-listed ksar of Aït Ben Haddou emerges on its hilltop, its ochre towers gleaming under the sun.
After a final lunch, you cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, arriving in Fes, by early evening, memories of a richly varied Moroccan adventure in tow.
