Itinerary – 3 Days tour from Fes to Marrakech
Day 1: Fes → Azrou → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Merzouga:
Your private 4×4 departs Fes at 8:00 a.m., climbing into the Middle Atlas toward Ifrane. In the pine-cloaked cedar forests of Azrou, troops of Barbary macaques frolic among ancient cedar trees.
The route then descends into Midelt, also known as Morocco’s “Apple Valley,” for a lakeside lunch. Next, it plunges into the Ziz River canyon, where swaying date palms frame the arid cliffs.
By late afternoon, the first dunes of Erg Chebbi will emerge in the distance. Arrive in Merzouga, store your luggage, and then ride a camel for an hour to an hour and a half across golden sand.
Your desert camp awaits, offering mint tea, a tagine dinner, and drumming under the boundless night sky.
Day 2: Merzouga → Todra Gorge → Dades Gorge:
Awaken before dawn to witness the sunrise illuminating the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Then, return to camp for a hearty Berber breakfast before departing by 4×4 or camel back to the village of Merzouga.
Head west to Todra Gorge, a narrow canyon where a river laps against 300-meter limestone walls—perfect for a riverside stroll. After having lunch in a nearby oasis town, continue along winding roads into the Dades Valley.
Here, the fractured red cliffs known as the “Monkey Fingers” tower above kasbah-dotted cliffs. Spend the evening in a charming riad overlooking the gorge.
Day 3: Dades Gorge → Ouarzazate → Aït Ben Haddou → Marrakech:
As dawn breaks over the Dades Valley, the first rays of sunlight illuminate the rugged canyon walls and cast a golden hue over the winding road below.
After a hearty breakfast, we head towards Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa.” There, the Taourirt Kasbah stands as a testament to the region’s rich history.
Nearby, Atlas Studios offers a glimpse into the world of cinema and has hosted numerous international film productions. Next, we arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou.
This ancient ksar, with its earthen clay architecture, has served as the backdrop for many iconic films and television series.
As we wander through its narrow alleys, we can almost hear the echoes of the ancient caravans that once passed through. In the afternoon, we ascended the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, the highest major mountain pass in North Africa.
The winding road offers panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains with their snow-capped peaks and lush valleys. As we descend, the landscape gradually transforms, signaling our approach to Marrakech.
By early evening, we arrive in the vibrant Red City, where our journey concludes amid the bustling souks and historic medina.
