Itinerary – 3 Days tour from Errachidia to Merzouga
Day 1: Errachidia → Erfoud → Merzouga
Your guide will greet you at the Errachidia airport or hotel before heading east into the Ziz Valley. There, centuries-old date palms line turquoise streams, creating an emerald ribbon in the ochre desert.
Around mid-morning, stop in Erfoud to explore family-run fossil workshops, where artisans sculpt 350-million-year-old remnants into decorative treasures.
As the road rises, red-clay kasbahs give way to the rolling dunes of Erg Chebbi. As you arrive near sunset, you will mount your camel for a silent trek to the desert camp. There, you will receive a Berber welcome with steaming tagine, a desert fire, and Gnaoua drumming under a canopy of stars.
Spend the night in a spacious tent with plush bedding—desert luxury framed by the infinite curves of the dunes.
Day 2: Merzouga Exploration & Sahara Safari
Awaken before dawn and climb a nearby dune to watch the sand glow rose-gold as the desert comes to life.
After breakfast at the campsite, set out on a 4×4 expedition across the dunes. Hidden oases dot this lunar terrain, and your driver-guide will reveal secret viewpoints atop towering mounds of sand.
At midday, visit the village of Khamlia to meet the Gnawa musicians, whose hypnotic rhythms echo ancestral journeys from sub-Saharan Africa, and sample sweet mint tea with your nomadic hosts.
As the afternoon light softens, try sandboarding down silky slopes before returning to camp for dinner under flickering lanterns and another enchanting night in the desert.
Day 3: Meridian Return via Rissani & Ziz Valley
On your final morning, enjoy a sunrise camel ride back to the edge of the dunes, then have breakfast under the blazing Saharan sky.
Then, climb into your 4×4 for a scenic drive through Rissani’s bustling souk, Morocco’s key date market, where fragrant spices and artisanal goods spill from stalls.
Continue along the Ziz River and pause at kasbahs perched on the cliffs, carved into the ochre canyon walls. Stop at the turquoise waters of the Hassan Adakhil Dam, improbably set against arid hills.
By late afternoon, you will arrive back in Errachidia, where your desert saga will conclude with memories of sand-shaped dreams and Berber camaraderie.
