Tour Highlights

Itinerary – 7 Days Tour From Casablanca to Marrakech

Day 1: Casablanca → Chefchaouen [338 km; ~5 h]

Depart Casablanca after sunrise and marvel at the oceanside minaret of the Hassan II Mosque soaring above the misty waves of the Atlantic.

Then, wind northward into the Rif and pause at Dar Bouazza’s sandy, crescent-shaped bays for a quick photo. This unexpected coastal gem is on Casablanca’s doorstep.

As the road climbs through olive groves and red-soil hills, the blue citadel of Chefchaouen appears, nestled against the forested peaks of the Talassemtane Mountains. You check into a riad with a rooftop terrace, then wander its labyrinth of cobalt-hued alleys.

Spend the afternoon sipping mint tea in Plaza Uta el-Hamman, browsing for woolen crafts, and hiking to the Spanish Mosque overlook. There, you can enjoy terraced vistas of the medina below stretching to snow-capped summits.

Wake up to the soft call to prayer echoing off the blue walls. Then, explore the Kasbah Museum’s mosaic-tiled courtyard and restored prison cells that once held 15^(th)-century Andalusians.

Lose yourself among local artisans selling hand-woven blankets and wool garments dyed with native indigo. By midday, hike the fragrant, pine-lined trails to the Ras el-Ma spring, where water trickles over rocks into shaded pools—an oasis within the embrace of the medina.

Then, return to town for lunch at an open-air café and sample regional olives and fresh flatbreads. In the afternoon, browse brass-inlaid lamps, attend a pottery demonstration, or simply relax on your riad’s terrace and watch the Rif’s pastel ridges glow at dusk.

Depart from Chefchaouen for the ancient Roman outpost of Volubilis, where crumbling columns and vibrant mosaics bear witness to its status as a provincial capital in the 3rd century AD. A guided stroll reveals the basilica, the Capitol, and the sweeping forum. Next, Meknes awaits.

Once the granary of Sultan Moulay Ismaïl, it is now marked by the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the water basin of the Sahrij es-Swani. After a short break to wander the spice-scented souk, you will take the final drive to Fes.

Arrive in time to watch the sunset over the medina rooftops, then settle into your riad nestled within its labyrinthine alleyways.

Meet your local guide at dawn outside Bab Bou Jeloud to explore Fes el-Bali’s living museum. Wander through the leather tanneries and the bronze-smith quarter. Then, visit the University of al-Qarawiyyin, the world’s oldest continually operating university, founded in 859 AD.

Visit the ornate Bou Inania Madrasa and explore the hidden souks filled with copperware and ceramics. Have lunch at a rooftop café overlooking the medina’s sea of terracotta rooftops.

Then, continue to the Royal Palace gates and the Mellah, the Jewish quarter. In the evening, sample street food in the labyrinth, from msemen pancakes to sweet pastries.

As you leave Fes, you will traverse the cedar-clad Middle Atlas Mountains. You will pause in Ifrane, also known as “Little Switzerland,” to stroll through its manicured parks and past its Alpine chalets. Next, the Azrou cedar forest beckons you to photograph Barbary macaques among the towering cedars.

In Midelt, you can enjoy a riverside lunch in the apple orchards before descending toward Erfoud, which is famous for its ancient marine fossils. Here, workshops transform 400-million-year-old relics into intricate carvings.

By late afternoon, you will reach the burnt-orange dunes of Erg ChebbiMount camels for a sunset trek and arrive at a Berber camp where candlelit tents and simple beds await under the moonlit sky.

Rise before dawn to watch the sun illuminate the dunes in shades of rose and amber, then return to enjoy a hearty Berber breakfast. Then, depart for Todra Gorge, where a short walk along the river reveals 300-meter-tall limestone walls and pockets of date palms.

After lunch in Tinghir, the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” will take you to Dades Valley, where you will see monkey-finger rock formations guarding cliff-edge roads. Check into a riad with panoramic terraces, then wander the valley floor at dusk as the ochre cliffs glow in the fading light.

This morning, explore the hidden kasbahs dotting the Dades Oasis, then head to Ouarzazate for a photo stop at the Taourirt Kasbah. Then, the drive climbs the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, offering sweeping panoramas of the High Atlas Mountains.

Then, descend to the Ait Ben Haddou ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose earthen towers and narrow alleyways have starred in countless films. After having lunch inside the ksar’s old granary, you will drive down into Marrakech.

As dusk falls, you enter the city through its red-clay walls, concluding your odyssey amid the stalls of Jemaa el-Fnaa and the minarets of the Koutoubia Mosque.
